DUANE JACOBSON

      Duane “Jake” Jacobson, 76, of Elkhorn. died July 23, 2022, in his home.

He was born Nov. 2, 1945, to Clarence and Mable (Hackerson) Jacobson in Morris, Illinois. Jake graduated from Elkhorn High School, class of 1963. He married Vernitta “Nita” Jensen on Sept. 23, 1993, in Woodstock, Illinois.

Jake worked at GM in Janesville for 38 years retiring in 2003. He also owned and operated Jake’s Excavating for nearly a decade.

Jake loved cars. He loved to buy them, work on them, repair them, drive them and then sooner or later sell them. Jake loved a good “car” conversation and discussing the history of the automobile industry. He will be remembered for spending time in his workshop “barn” with his large collection of vintage vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Vernitta “Nita” Jacobson of Elroy; his two step-children, Marty Knapp and Tammy Knapp; one granddaughter, Heather Rouque; one great grandson, Hayden Rouque; a brother, Carlin (Janice) Jacobson; two sisters, Beverly Shepherd and Jackie (Earl) Sheldon; his good friend, John Sather and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Special thanks to John Sather for being such a great friend to Jake.

Duane’s graveside service was Thursday, July 28, in the Elroy City Cemetery. A memorial is being established in his name.
