The Town of Delavan Board has appointed a new clerk to replace Kristy McChristy, who resigned effective April 30. Former clerk Dixie Bernsteen was appointed by the Board as interim clerk on May 9. Michele Starin officially began her duties on May 23 and was appointed through April 15, 2025.

Starin has been appointed as the permanent clerk. Starin is coming to the town from Walworth County Chiropractic in Delavan where she served as office manager since February of 2020. Before that she worked for Cannella Response Television in Burlington as a media scheduling associate, Walworth State Bank as a teller/assistant supervisor, Southeastern Wisconsin Title Company as a receptionist, Power Merchandising Corporation in Elkhorn as a customer service representative, and Northwestern Mutual as a customer service representative and administrative assistant. Starin is a Delavan-Darien High School graduate.

Greg’s Repair under watch

The Board received an update on the compliance, or lack thereof, of Greg’s Repair at 5438 State Highway 11. Chairman Larry Malsch said the issue has been going on for three years. Malsch said the business is already facing legal action by the City of Elkhorn for failure to comply with zoning conditions.

The business is zoned for small engine sales but has been used for repairs and neighbors have complained about the property’s appearance. Malsch said Code Enforcement Officer Shannon Markley has not been citing the property for its appearance lately because the owner has erected a gate so that the mess cannot be seen from the road. Malsch said a neighbor can still see the mess and is still not happy.

Some discussion was had about reporting the mess to police if anyone on the Board happens to drive by and see the gate open, as Malsch says is sometimes the case. Markley only works for the town less than 20 hours a month, so if a report came in while she was not working the police could drive by and take photos that she could later use to issue citations.
