Warren Mitchell

Warren Orlin Mitchell, 88, passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2022, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Born on May 9, 1933, Mitchell is from long-established families in East Troy, his grandfather, Edward Mitchell, having migrated from Yorkshire England in 1861 to cultivate the land and raise dairy cattle on a pioneer farm, and Warren’s maternal grandfather, Orlin H. Mills, DDS, being a respected dentist in town.

After spending his adolescence on the dairy farm of Cliff and Grace Healey, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving for more than 21 years, first as jet engine mechanic, then as a rocket engine mechanic in the Minuteman Missile program, before becoming a missile maintenance supervisor.

After his retirement from the military in 1974 at the rank of senior master sergeant, he served for 27 years as a deputy sheriff with the Hillsborough County (Tampa) Sheriff’s Department where he worked in the jail system and transportation, retiring at the rank of lieutenant in 2001.

An avid Green Bay Packer’s fan he was a member of the Tampa Bay Packer Backers.

He is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Franklin Mitchell, his mother Allie Pearl Mills; his wife of 65 years, Irma Lee Newman, of Tampa, Florida; and sons Warren Douglas Mitchell and Kenneth William Mitchell of Tampa.

He is survived by his sister Ida Mae Moat, 94, of East Troy; his son, Carl Benjamin; (Ben) Mitchell and his wife, Nancy, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a host of nieces and nephews and their families. He is deeply missed by all of them.

He is interred in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Florida, next to his wife, sons, and mother-in-law, Pearl Reddick Newman.
