Ceremony will be the same day as Oktoberfest in the Town of Delavan

Construction on the new Waters Edge event and convention venue in the Town of Delavan is complete and a grand opening ceremony is slated to take place right before the Oktoberfest event at Delavan Community Park.

Groundbreaking on the construction project was held Oct. 26, 2020. Nearly a year later, the ribbon cutting ceremony for Waters Edge, will take place at 11:45 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, just prior to the start of this year’s Oktoberfest, which will begin at noon that day.

In addition to some of the town’s supervisors and parks and tourism committee members, local dignitaries, including Walworth County Supervisor Ryan Simons and State Sen. Steve Nass will attend the ceremony.

Waters Edge is at Delavan Community Park, 1220 South Shore Dr. Delavan.

Following the ceremony, the main floor of Waters Edge will be open to tour and meet with representatives of the Delavan Friends of the Park, who will be able to provide information on rental of the building. There will also be information on the community mural, which will be a way for residents and local businesses to be part of the renovated building.

“This property is so beautiful for any sort of social event – weddings, proms, graduation parties, quinceaneras, retirement parties, and so on. With the lake and all the outdoor space, it really does offer the best of Delavan to anyone hosting an event at Waters Edge,” said event coordinator Becky Dreyer.

Partnering with Delavan Lake Resort, Waters Edge will also be marketed as a convention center and corporate meeting facility.

The Town of Delavan’s Oktoberfest will follow from noon to 6 p.m. and feature food trucks with German offerings, two German dance troupes, a German folk singer and the Steve Meisner Polka Band, who will take the stage from 3 to 6 p.m.

“Kids can enjoy the bouncy house and face painting, while Delavan Friends of the Park will be selling German beer and refreshments throughout the day,” organizers said.

Sponsors for Oktoberfest include Kunes Country, Vitesco, the Town of Delavan, Noble Insurance and Shodeen Homes.

Looking ahead, the town’s annual Kids’ Halloween Party, which will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, will be held at Waters Edge.

The party is free to the community and kids younger than the age of 12 will receive a free hot dog (while supplies last.) Costumes are encouraged and there will be music, games and entertainment.

“The party was not held last year due to COVID, but the town is excited to bring the community together once again for a fun event,” organizers said.
