Model A brings fashion, vehicles from yesterday

Model A Day, presented by Historic Downtown Sharon, brought people young and old together for the annual event last week.

“Model A Day is Historic Downtown Sharon’s premiere event, brought to you with the generous assistance of the Rockford A’s club. The event features over one hundred authentic Model A cars, live music, and a variety of food and vendors,” the nonprofit group’s website states.

Historic Downtown Sharon, a nonprofit historical society established more than 20 years ago, was formerly known as Sharon Main Street Association.

Model A Day, which was held June 6 this year, is one of three events Historical Downtown Sharon sponsors annually with help from many generous sponsors and volunteers.

It featured the Matthew Wundrow Band as well as a cakewalk at the Gazebo, where the Crystal Lake Community Band performed later in the day.

Events in the Circle include children’s games, a fashion show along with a performance from The Westernness Swing Band.

Newsboys in costume greeted visitors and handed out the event’s programs.

Visitors, in addition to listening to live entertainment, could view black Model A’s parked along the street as well as historic homes in the downtown area.

Historic Downtown Sharon consists of board members looking to bring new people to the community and celebrate the hundreds of years of history downtown Sharon offers.

Other group events include the Roun’da Manure Bicycle Tour, a bike ride in rural areas featuring four routes of differing lengths and offering coupons for local ice creams shops as well as a pig roast with live music at the conclusion of the ride.

The bicycle tour is the third Saturday in August.

Historic Downtown Sharon also presents a Victorian Christmas event, which is held during the holiday season.
