Big Foot Recreation District delivers for fathers, daughters

The Abbey Resort Pavilion in Fontana served as a venue for Big Foot Recreation District’s Daddy Daughter Dance on May 14.

Chuck Thiesenhusen, Big Foot Recreation District director, said the event ran safely amid ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

“We (had) COVID respectable 200 dads and daughters primarily from the Big Foot and Elkhorn communities joining together this year,” he said. “It would have been easy to cancel the event, but we felt that we could safely run this special evening with everyone’s cooperation.”

The recreation district’s objective, he said, was for everyone to have a fun, safe and memorable time while following COVID-19 guidelines.

Organizers reduced seating to six to eight people per table, instead of the normal 10, and had an ‘undefined” dance area to encourage distancing and engagement in outdoor activities.

Outdoor activities included an oversized Jenga, Connect Four, lawn dice, ladder ball and corn hole games as well as a table for s’mores.

The district required masks worn inside while not seated to eat.

Thiesenhusen said the event allowed people to use the “beautiful Abbey Pavilion,” which serves as an ideal spot for an indoor/outdoor event, allowing everyone an opportunity to spread out while enjoying the party.

The Big Foot Recreation District extended gratitude to Daniels Sentry in Walworth and Frank’s Piggly Wiggly in Elkhorn for donating carnations to the girls.

Scott Thomas Entertainment – which served as master of ceremonies – also supplied music for the event.

Fathers and daughters could receive a photo package, made available through Sport Pics.

The meal included tossed salad, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, rolls, fruit punch, specialty teas, milk and coffee, marble cake with butter cream frosting as well as a soda, which was available at a cash bar.
