JOHN R. MACKENZIE

John R. MacKenzie, 81, of East Troy passed away at his home surrounded by his family on April 2, 2021.

John was a 1958 East Troy high school graduate and a star player on the basketball team.

John served in the U.S. Army for three years in Germany and eventually returned to his hometown of East Troy.

John and his smile were a staple in East Troy where his family established in the mid 1800s. He could be heard saying “Finer than frog hair!” or telling someone the history of his community.

He met his wife of 43 years Kathy “Midge” in East Troy where they were married and raised their family.

John worked at Trent Tube, built and owned the Drive and Shine Car Wash in East Troy and MacKenzie Construction Co.

He was active in the East Troy Historical Society and enjoyed genealogy and history.

John loved people, storytelling, and a good Tom and Jerry and an Old Fashion … or two.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Scott, Patti and Sean (Krystal); grandchildren, Megan (Gerard) and Elizabeth; great-grandson, Davin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Memorials to the family are greatly appreciated as a charitable gift will be made to the East Troy Historical Society in John’s name.

A celebration of John’s life service will be at 1 p.m. Friday April 9, at Legacy Funeral Services, 2974 Main St. East Troy. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
