DAVID L. ‘DAVE’ DAVIS

David L. “Dave” Davis, age 73, passed away at his home in Whitewater on Jan. 26, 2013.

He was born April 4, 1939 in Lyons, Wis. He attended a small country grade school at the corner of Highway J and Adams Creek Road in Walworth County.

Moving to Whitewater he attended high school where he was known as one of the toughest football players on the Whitewater High School undefeated 1956 football team.

Dave served as a Naval Reservist in the early 1960’s. He worked in numerous jobs as a machinist including Trent Tube in East Troy.

He married Margaret Codrington in 1963, and had a son, Dan and a daughter, Debra, all whom live in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bernie and Bruce Davis.

Dave will be remembered by those who knew him as a quick-witted, self-sufficient person. He was generous with his support of numerous UW-Whitewater students, among whom he aided, Adrian Phillips through Law School.

He was a very skilled craftsman when it came to woodworking/carving and his machinist profession. He always had time for others. He loved Whitewater and its beauty. Dave was a prolific writer and for those fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of his letters got to know the depths of his heart and be touched by them all.

In his final years, Dave was supported by his good friends Stacey and Reyne Phillips of Browntown, Wis., Adrian Phillips of Rockford, Ill., and Dan Sable of Whitewater.

Dave was one of Whitewater’s many colorful characters and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Olsen Funeral Home in Whitewater assisted the family with arrangements.
