Rotary recognizes DDHS students of the month

Delavan-Darien High School seniors Erica De Jong and Luke Freitag were recently recognized as the Delavan-Darien Rotary Club’s students of the month.

Erica De Jong – the daughter of Maria and Tim De Jong, and Luke Freitag – son of Stephanie and Luke Freitag, were honored as Delavan-Darien Rotary Club students for the month of January.

De Jong participates in tennis, choir, and band and is a member of the National Honor Society.

She volunteers at Delavan Christian School participating in mission trips, caroling, as well as the apple pie sale. She also volunteers with the DDABC (Delavan-Darien Athletic Booster Club) at the Walworth County Fair.

De Jong will be attending George Williams College in Williams Bay for nursing.

Freitag participates in football, basketball, and baseball and is a member of the National Honor Society.

He has volunteered in the past with the DAYS (Delavan Area Youth Service) Foundation, and currently volunteers with the St. Nick’s breakfast at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, little kids basketball at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with school, and he also coaches youth baseball.

Freitag plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison or University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has not decided on a major.

As recipients of this award, a Delavan-Darien High School administrator escorted De Jong and Freitag to the Rotary Club luncheon meeting on Jan. 13.
