Whitewater indoor market opens Saturday

Whitewater City Market officials announced earlier this week the indoor market will open on Saturday.

“Happy New Year market friends! Now that the outdoor season is over (brrrr), we are thrilled to announce the details of the 2021 indoor market season,” organizers posted on the Whitewater City Market Facebook page.

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 9, the market will be held 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday through April at the UW-Whitewater Community Engagement Center, the post stated. The Center is at 1260 W. Main Street, adjacent to Walmart and is also known as the old Sentry building.

“We are very grateful that, through a partnership with the university, we can continue to provide a safe venue for our vendors and market-goers to share local food and other goods,” the post stated.

The fully refurbished Community Engagement Center offers both the space and up-to-date air filtration systems needed to ensure a safe environment for the market.

In an effort to provide a safe environment, capacity will be limited to 30 people in the building at any one time, including vendors, and traffic flow will be one way, organizers stated.

Though they won’t all be present each week (they’re expecting about 12 weekly), organizers released the following list of vendors who have signed up for the 2021 indoor season thus far:

  • Belt Me Beef
  • Bowers Lake Coffee
  • Clark Family Garden
  • Coco’s Cakes
  • Fremont Sweets
  • Helena’s Plant Closet/ Whitewater Egg Delivery
  • Hoots Fruits and Vegetables
  • Kettle Moraine Honey
  • Komboocho Brewing
  • Kit’s Knits
  • Kristie’s Creative Kitchen
  • Margie Hammerl
  • My Farm
  • Pat Hall
  • Soap of the Earth
  • Stephani’s Spot
  • Sunny Brook Farm
  • Street Bakery

Every Friday a list of vendors for that Saturday’s market will be posted on the Facebook page.

“We have a total capacity of 13 vendors plus one staffer and we will adhere to that, although most weeks we’ll have closer to 11 or 12 vendors,” they stated. “We hope you felt safe at our outdoor market, and we’re just as committed to making this as safe as possible for all concerned.”

Organizers also thanked everyone who has worked together for the 2021 Whitewater City Market indoor season.
