Crash knocks out power

Much of the City of Delavan lost electrical power recently when a car crashed into the Alliant Energy substation at Wisconsin and Sixth streets. According to Delavan Fire Chief Tim O’Neill, Delavan firefighters and staff from Medix Ambulance and Mercy MD-1 extricated the driver from the overturned vehicle. According to authorities, the driver, Tyler Thiele, came from the east and went through the stop sign at Seventh Street, witnesses reported. He had been arrested the night before for operating while intoxicated–third offense. Thiele suffered no major injuries and was treated and released before being taken into custody. He was cited for reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic sign and unreasonable and imprudent speed; he also faces charges for recklessly endangering safety, according to police.
