The Town of Delavan and Delavan Friends of the Park are in the final stages of planning a celebration of German culture with its Oktoberfest on Saturday.

The celebration will be held noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Delavan Community Park, at the corner of Highway 50 and South Shore Drive and admission is free.

There will be food trucks, vendors, German dancers and live entertainment from The Steve Meisner Band. Delavan Friends of the Park will be hosting beverage sales and no outside alcohol will be permitted.

Axe-Sighted will be offering the chance to throw axes inside of its fully enclosed trailer. The axe throwing was a very popular attraction at the Independence Day Celebration in June, so Axe-Sighted representatives said they’re excited to be returning to Delavan.

A new addition this year is a chance for attendees to try their hand at German trivia. Teams of up to six people are encouraged to sign up on the Delavan Friends of the Park Facebook page; there is a $15 entry fee per team.

There will also be a sauerkraut eating competition for which participants can register on the day of the event.

The Community Park building is currently under construction, so this will be an outdoor event.

German food will be provided by some of the preferred catering partners for the Waters Edge Wedding and Event venue, which will open in summer of 2021. A few of the delicacies available will be beer cheese dip with Bavarian kettle chips, bratwurst meatloaf with red cabbage gravy and   Konigsberger Klopse, German-style meatballs in a brown caper sauce.

Community sponsors for the Town of Delavan Oktoberfest event include Noble Insurance, First National Bank and Brassworks Apartments.
