Delavan Lions Club to host Corn & Brat drive-thru

Multi-weekend event in response to fair cancellation

Now that the Walworth County Fair has been canceled, the Delavan Lions Club is working to identify other fundraisers that are feasible, given the current public health concerns.

“Because the corn roast at the fair is the main source of our fundraising, we are at risk of being unable to fulfill our annual commitments of paying scholarships or making donations to support local organizations,” club member Sara Deschner said.

She said the club is trying to be inventive and identify other options for fundraising with the hope of filling the financial void and first on the agenda is a three-weekend event, which will feature the club teaming up with a couple local businesses.

For the next three Saturdays, Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, a Corn & Brat drive-thru will be held at Riga-Tony’s Italian Deli in Delavan with the proceeds supporting the Delavan Lions Club.

“The drive-thru will be staffed by members of the club,” Deschner said.

Funds raised will be directed to some of the Delavan Lions Club’s largest budgetary commitments:

  • Funding high school scholarships awarded to Delavan-Darien High School and Wisconsin School for the Deaf graduates;
  • Delavan Food Pantry;
  • Lakeland Animal Shelter, and;
  • City of Delavan and Town of Delavan fire departments.

The $10 meal will include: a choice of brat or hot dog, an ear of roasted corn, soda or water, and a cookie.

And for those wanting an extra treat during the drive-thru fundraisers, another local business, Lake Geneva Cannery will be selling slices of apple and cherry pie with those proceeds also supporting the Delavan Lions Club.

Deschner said with the fair cancellation not happening until late last week, the club has scrambled a bit to come up with a plan and get the news out.

The Delavan Lions Club Corn & Brat drive-thru will take place in the Dairy Queen Plaza on Highway 50 east of Town Hall Road and South Shore Drive.
