“While saying that we are operating in unchartered waters is stating the obvious, it’s imperative that each and every citizen keep stating the obvious,” James Heilman, Elkhorn City Administrator said last week.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Heilman encourages residents to continue to do the “small that we keep hearing; wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, six-foot separation, stay at home as much as possible, keep any gathering to a minimum, never more than 10 people and use common sense.”

He said while those items may sound inconsequential, they are going to be one of the vital parts to turning the tide on the Coronavirus and lessening its impact on the Elkhorn community.

The City Administration has worked in conjunction with the Common Council and Mayor Howie Reynolds to put procedures in place to ensure that services such as electric, water, sewer and public works are provided without interruption, according to Heilman.

“We understand that citizens have many items that they are juggling during these uncertain times and we will continue to stay on top of our services and make them our top concern,” he said.

As of earlier this week, Heilman noted, the Spring Election is still scheduled for April 7 and in Elkhorn, the location has been changed to Sunset Park Recreation Center.

“We are grateful to all the citizens that have already requested an absentee ballot and we highly encourage citizens to continue using that avenue for voting,” he said.

To vote early, an appointment is required and can be made by calling the City Clerk’s office at 262-723-2219 with slots open this week and next (the week of March 30.) In-person absentee voting will be done at City Hall, 9 S. Broad St. but again, an appointment is required.

Citizens able to vote by some method other than in person on April 7 will help to limit congestion at the polls.

“To date the citizens of Elkhorn have done a tremendous job of voting early. Keep it up, we are proud of all of your efforts to make these processes as easy as possible,” Heilman said.

He said anyone with questions is welcome to call the administration office at 262-723-2219.
