DARLENE A. PICKNELL

Darlene A. Picknell, 75, Rice Lake, formerly of Delavan, lost her five-year battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2013.

She was born March 7, 1937 to the late Worthy and Luella (Garthwaite) Grasley in Birchwood. There she was raised and graduated from the Rice Lake High School and attended Barron County Teachers College. She met and married Harry Picknell on Oct. 27, 1956. Harry was in the United States Air Force, so she became an Air Force wife.

Darlene and Harry were both involved in community involvement service while in Delavan. They served the leadership roles for Cub Scout Pack 327 from 1971-76. Darlene was a Den Leader and Coach and Harry was the Cub Master. They had five children; two daughters, Robin and Annalee and three sons, James, Kurtis and Mark. While living in Delavan, she was a member of the Delavan United Methodist Church and Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay. During her time in Rice Lake, she was a member of the Rice Lake Assembly of God and Rice Lake Senior Center. She loved sewing, painting and needlework.

She is survived by daughters, Robin (Walter) Jacobsen and Annalee (Elliott) DeMerell; sons, James (Shelly), Kurtis (Catherine) and Mark (Lisa) and several grandchildren.

She was further preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 1976; sister, Diane Wreath and brothers, Roger and Rodney Grasley.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake with the Rev. Alan Klasi officiating. Internment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood. Visitation will be held from 10 to service time Saturday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals.
