Elkhorn rec center fee approved to thwart damage

It’ll cover costs for an attendant to open, close the building

The City of Elkhorn Common Council voted at its Feb. 3 meeting in favor of a $25 opening and closing fee for the Elkhorn Recreation Center that City officials said will help to improve the rental process.

Parks and Recreation Director Karl Sorvick said that the current system does not have a rental attendant that opens or closes the building, and as such, those who rent the Recreation Center receive a key prior to the rental and are expected to return the key the Monday following use of the building.

However, according to Sorvick, there are times staff discovers damages he believes could be prevented with a rental attendant. Examples he gave included renters that don’t clean up properly, scratches and dents on the walls and, citing a recent incident of a stain that the City had to have professionally removed.
