Free flu shots available in Elkhorn

In an effort to help protect the community from influenza, Walworth County Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health will host a walk-in clinic offering free flu vaccines from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Health and Human Services building, 1910 Highway NN, Elkhorn.

The flu vaccine will be available for anyone who is 6 months and older and resides in Walworth County.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced recently that Wisconsin has seen 459 hospitalizations for influenza this season, more than three times as many as this time last year. In addition, 11 Wisconsinites have died due to complications from influenza, including one child in the southeast region.

“That’s why we urge all Wisconsinites to get flu shots, not only to protect themselves, but also everyone around them from serious illness. If you have yet to get your flu shot, it is not too late,” State Health Officer Jeanne Ayers said.

The best way to protect yourself and others from the flu is to get an annual flu vaccine. The flu shot can help prevent you from getting the virus, and greatly reduce symptoms if you do get it, shortening time away from work or school.

The Center for Disease Control recommends the flu vaccine for those 6 months of age and older.
