With 156.5 points, the Whitewater High School wrestling squad did well at the Monroe Invitational Saturday, finishing second to host Monroe (220 points).

“The team bounced back well from their loss to Evansville (Jan. 15),” head coach John Schimming said. “The Whippets had six wrestlers competing in the finals with two coming away victorious.”

Irving Sedano, at 113 pounds, had a first-round bye, but then pinned his next two opponents, both in less than a minute, to take the top spot at that weight class.

Zach Miles also had a first-round bye at 170, and then followed that up with two wins by decision to win that category.

“Both Irving and Zach wrestled well on the day,” Schimming said.

Taking second for the Whippets were Alberto Rodriguez at 106 pounds, Osvaldo Serna at 120, James Ehlen at 152 and Daniel Soto at 220.

Schedule

The next action for the Whippet varsity grapplers is Tuesday, Jan. 29, when they host Fort Atkinson in a Rock Valley Conference dual at 7 p.m.
