The Big Foot-Williams Bay girls tennis team’s inaugural run in Division 1 turned out just fine.

In fact, it was better than fine.

Big Foot’s doubles duo of senior Clare Heckert and sophomore Emily Gauger picked up two victories at the State Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison before they fell to the eventual third-place finishers.

For the year, Heckert-Gauger posted a 26-4 overall record.

In the opening round, the Big Foot duo earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Eau Claire Memorial team of freshman Kim Harvey and sophomore Katie Rentzepis.

That win sent Big Foot to the second round against the 14th-seeded Slinger duo of senior Jessi Lambo and junior Kacie O’Hearn, a matchup the Chiefs won, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
