Elkhorn Area High School’s Afton Malvitz shot a 94 and lived to golf another day Oct. 4 in a WIAA Division 1 regional girls golf tournament at Edgewood Golf Course in Big Bend.

Malvitz advanced as an individual qualifier from the regional meet to a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet, which took place Tuesday at The Legend at Bristlecone in Hartland. Results were not available prior to press time.

As a team the Elks finished sixth. Inclement weather forced some changes to the regional tournament and forced it back one day from its originally scheduled time.

Coach Mark Malvitz said rain forced competitors to play the front nine twice instead of partaking of the entire course.

“Everything played out according to averages at our regional,” Mark Malvitz said. “We were sixth going in, and that’s where we finished.”

Marlie Lockhart shot a 103. Rachel Devries finished at 114 and Raven Musgrove carded a 117. Grace Ivey finished at 128. The Elks finished with a four-player team score of 428.

“As a team, the girls were a little disappointed with the finish, which shows me they care and that their effort was there throughout,” Mark Malvitz said. “This is another great group of kids that were fun to coach all year.”

The top four teams and top four individual golfers who do not play for one of the top four teams advance from the regional meet to the sectional meet.

Kettle Moraine won the regional with a score of 33. Badger (345) finished second, Janesville Craig third (362) and Milton fourth (372).

Badger’s Holly Murphy won individual medalist honors (77).

Parker’s Bria McDade (90), Mukwonago’s Ellie Craig (92) and East Troy’s Caroline Christiansen (100) also advanced as individual qualifiers.
