Kids 8 to 17 can take to the skies for free Saturday at the East Troy Municipal Airport.

East Troy airport to host Young Eagles Rally Saturday

EAA Chapter 18 Milwaukee will have a Young Eagles Rally from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at East Troy Municipal Airport, during which kids age 8 to 17 can experience aviation through free airplane rides.

The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. Pilots volunteer their time and aircraft so flights can be provided free of charge for interested young people.

Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. Following the flight, which lasts about 20 minutes, each child will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle.

Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh. The Logbook is also accessible online at www.youngeagles.org.

Those interested in attending the flight rally Saturday are asked come to the main terminal building at East Troy Municipal Airport, 2083 Highway L, East Troy, to register starting at 9:30 a.m. Parent/guardian signature is required on the registration form.

The event will be held weather permitting.
