Shelter denied by Elkhorn Council

Though there was little discussion – at tonight’s standing room only meeting – the Elkhorn Common Council denied the conditional use permit request for New Beginnings APFV by a vote of 4-2.

New Beginnings hoped to renovate a former clinic into a domestic abuse shelter in downtown Elkhorn. The former clinic on Church Street, which is owned by Aurora, was going to be donated for the purpose of the proposed shelter had the council given the go-ahead.

Among the reasons for denying the permit request were concerns about parking, the driveway being inadequate and the project not fitting in the city’s comprehensive plan.

  1. Nice elkhorn, way to show you don’t care about your towns people or abused women. If it doesn’t make you money, you don’t want it. This town is such a joke

  2. Sad news. Shame on those who voted no.
