Ride to raise awareness for human trafficking

When Lynn Talarek, a student at George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, attended a lecture about human trafficking in the area she knew she had to take action.

“Two county leaders spoke to one of my classes about human trafficking. I was upset with what I heard and I decided to do something about it,” Talarek said. “I was getting frustrated about the amount of trafficking going on in our county and wanted to provide a way to let people know what’s happening and to make the community a safer place.

The problem is far more prevalent than most people know, according to Talarek, so she organized the Break the Chains rally, which takes place Saturday.

The two “county leaders” who spoke to Talarek’s class were Dawn Heath, an education activist with Join the Movement, which works to stop human trafficking; and Cathy Duchow-Cross, the sexual assault nurse examiner with Aurora for Racine and Walworth counties.
