HHS building project ahead of schedule

The new Walworth County Health and Human Services building, on Highway NN in Elkhorn, is expected to be finished ahead of schedule and well within budget, according to current projections by county officials. Originally slated to be complete by late November, if work continues to go as it has to this point, the building will be finished by the end of October. (Heather Ruenz photo)

Despite unusually wet weather throughout this spring, the Walworth County new Health and Human Services building project is beginning to take its final form and is expected to be finished ahead of schedule.

According to a June 12 report provided to the Walworth County Public Works Committee, the new 77,500-square-foot building, the construction of which began in August last year, is now approximately 70 percent complete. The estimate for it to be completed is by Halloween, a little less than a month ahead of what was originally anticipated.

Additionally, the report notes that County staff are continually monitoring costs associated with the project, and as the project currently stands it is well within the $24.1 million amount originally budgeted.

“To date, the project is in very good shape,” Walworth County Engineer Joe Kroll said. “We are well within budget and hope to complete the work ahead of schedule.”
