Several construction workers were injured this morning on the job site for the new Kay’s Academy of Dance Studio in Mukwonago.

Mukwonago Fire Chief Jeff Stien said six people were injured and transported to area hospitals when the supports for the second floor of the building collapsed while the second floor was being poured around 8:30 a.m.

“It’s not really a roof collapse like they’re saying,” Stien said. “They were pouring the second floor and it appears, for whatever reason, there was a failure in the section they were pouring.”

Stien said the construction workers suffered various injuries, including back injuries, cuts, scrapes and bruises.

“But, thankfully, nothing life threatening,” he added. “It appears the individuals were on top of the structure when it happened, not under where they were pouring and they were thrown around it. It could have been a lot worse.”

The matter is under investigation.
