On May 20, the Whitewater High School boys and girls track and field teams competed in a WIAA regional meet.

Numerous individuals and relay teams advanced to sectionals, which took place May 23 at East Troy High School.

Five relay teams advanced to the Division 2 state meet, which is this Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

On the girls side, the 800-meter and 400-meter relays qualified to compete at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The relays consist of Kacie Carollo, Morgan Radaj, Grace Black and Abby Grosinske.

For the boys, the 3,200 relay (Juan Cuellar, Gio Anello, Iggy Cuevas and Trenten Zahn), the 400 relay (Cuellar, Willem Leibbrand, Jared Clapper and Jack Mayer) and the 800 relay (Mayer, Cuellar, Leibbrand and Clapper) units qualified.

Clapper clinched his spot in the 100-meter dash field, while Avery Caputo advanced in the wheelchair division of the 100-meter dash.

Sashi Popke in the pole vault and Joe Gmur in the high jump also earned spots at state.

Whippets head coach Mark Maas said fans’ support helped his student-athletes deliver.

“It was great having everyone there,” he said.
