Man charged with selling cocaine near schools

Sale reportedly happened near Walworth Elementary School

An initial appearance was scheduled for Wednesday for an Illinois man charged with selling cocaine near schools in Walworth and Delavan.

Omar B. Castro Barrera, 20, of Harvard, Illinois, was charged May 13 in Walworth County Circuit Court with two counts of manufacturing or delivering cocaine, both as a party to a crime and near a school.

Police arranged a controlled buy of cocaine from Agustin Huerta, 22, the week of Feb. 3 at Huerta’s Madison Street home in Walworth, which is about 600 feet from Walworth Elementary School, according to the criminal complaint.

When the informant arrived to buy the cocaine, Huerta told the informant his “plug” would deliver the drugs. Barrera arrived and delivered 7.3 grams of cocaine, according to the complaint.

The week of Feb. 10, police arranged a controlled buy with Barrera at East Geneva and Wright streets in Delavan, which is across the street from Wileman Elementary School, according to the complaint.

During that buy, Barrera and Huerta arrived together and Barrera delivered 4.83 grams of cocaine, according to the complaint.

Barrera’s initial court appearance was expected to take place May 29.
