Thrifting for a cause

New Chapter Resale opening in Lake Geneva

Shopping second-hand stores has become not only acceptable, but hip, and a new store in Lake Geneva offers another place to pick up (or drop) off gently used treasures.

New Chapter Resale, N3358 Highway H, Lake Geneva, will be celebrate its grand opening and host a donation drive for furniture, appliances, home decor, dishes and household goods, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

“I’ve owned a business my whole life, Gustafson Total Maintenance, and now in retirement, I want to give back to my community,” New Chapter Resale owner Jeff Gustafson said.

He thought what better way than to own a resale store that donates a portion of its proceeds to a local charity.

The charity Gustafson picked for his store is New Beginnings APFV, which provides support and services to people affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking

When Gustafson learned about New Beginnings APFV, he said he knew what his thrift store should be called – New Chapter Resale.

Additionally, New Beginnings clients who are relocating can shop for free.

“I want to help start a new chapter for the clients of New Beginnings and give them a boost in their new lives free of violence; they shouldn’t have to worry about finding home furnishings, decorations, and dishes,” Gustafson said.

The motto of New Chapter Resale is, “Supporting our community through your donations.”

The store is also accepting donations.

New Chapter Resale is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 4 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
