It began as a gift to Mrs. Lincoln. Today it is a background prop for selling car insurance.

The Statue of Liberty stands as “The lamp beside the golden door” as it welcomes all to “the last best hope on earth.” The generations that came through Ellis Island saw this edifice as their first glimpse of freedom.

In honor of American independence, the Palmyra Eagle Community Band once again will present a series of salutes to Lady Liberty.

Bandmaster Ed Pierce and his performers are promising to bring “Star Spangled” celebrations to the Southern Lakes region this summer, and they kick off their flag-waving schedule this weekend for Memorial Day.

The events will feature various instrumental soloists, a dance team and soloist in residence Kim Fadner.
