A special Thanksgiving fundraiser to be held

Friends of Brenda Warrenburg will host the event May 19

The Friends of Brenda Warrenburg will host a Thanksgiving Dinner Fundraiser on Sunday, May 19 to raise funds to assist the family while she continues to battle stage 3 pancreatic cancer.

A Thanksgiving Dinner may seem like an odd fundraiser to be held in the month of May, but it makes sense when you learn more about Warrenburg, according to event organizers.

She has been responsible for organizing the delivery of thousands of dinners for shut-ins and seniors on Thanksgiving for the last twelve years. It started as the Elks Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need and continued as the Community Thanksgiving Dinner with Friends at the Town of Delavan Community Park. Meals are served on Thanksgiving in-house and Brenda organizes roughly 80 volunteers to pack and deliver meals throughout Walworth County.

Brenda, and her husband Lester have five children; Ronald, 26, Allie, 24, Gabie, 18, Lance, 15, and Dalton, 9, and live in Delavan. She has been the general manager of the Comfort Suites in Delavan for the last 6 1/2 years but had to go on medical leave recently.

She has been undergoing chemotherapy since December 2018 and recently completed her ninth round. She will continue with the chemo three weeks on and one week off until June when she will have a scan to see if the tumor has shrunk enough for surgery. If not, they will continue with a plan of more radiation and chemo in hopes of shrinking the tumor enough for surgery, which, if successful, could make her cancer free.

In addition to coordinating the delivery of Thanksgiving dinners for the last 12 years, Brenda is known locally as a hardworking and well-organized volunteer. She began as a Bear Den Leader in 2001 and in 2003 became Cub Master. She was also a Girl Scout leader and cookie coordinator for the troop in Delavan. She became an adviser for the Venturing Crew, a high adventure group for both boys and girls through the Boy Scouts of America in 2010. She has also helped coordinate the Delavan Train Show exhibitors since 2017 and helped in other areas for a few years prior.

The May 19 Thanksgiving Dinner Fundraiser for Brenda Warrenburg will be 4 to 7 p.m. at the Town of Delavan Community Park, 1220 South Shore Dr., Delavan.

The suggested donation at the door is $15, adults, $10, children 10 and younger. The buffet-style dinner will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls and butter, dessert and coffee, water or milk.

BCT will be playing from 3 to 6 p.m. and there will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffles.

All are encouraged to help support a community volunteer through this fundraiser. To make a direct donation to the Friends of Brenda Warrenburg, contact Chris at (262) 745-4043.
