The Village of Darien board honored outgoing president Kurt Zipp with a proclamation declaring April 15, 2019 to be Kurt Zipp Appreciation Day.
Zipp decided not to seek re-election as president in the April election in part so he could focus his attention on serving on a committee that was authorized by a referendum in November to explore other educational opportunities for the village after the closure of Darien Elementary School last year.
Since then, the Delavan-Darien School Board has voted to reopen the school as Darien Intermediate School for grades 3-4 next fall.
Zipp began serving as a Village Trustee in 2002 and served five terms from 2002-2010 and 2011-2013. He then served as president for three terms from 2013-2019. Zipp has served on almost every village committee, commission and board in his 17 years serving the village.
