Elks track team getting better ‘one race at a time’

The Elkhorn Area High School boys track team won the Jim Church Invitational April 18 at Brodhead High School and Union Grove Quad April 16 at Union Grove High School.

The girls finished third at Brodhead and won the Union Grove quad.

“Our team just continues to get better, one workout and race at a time,” Elks coach Cody Christensen said. “I’m really proud of how our young athletes have stepped-up and persevered.”

At Brodhead, Devon Davey won the 200-meter dash (23.23) and finished second in the 100 (11.80).

Lucas Koepke won the 110 hurdles (16.68) and Chris Sattler won the 300 hurdles (42.54). Alex Hergott won the high jump (6 feet).

Ben Tuescher finished second in the 800 (2:08.37) and 1,600 (4:45.04).

Megan Pauley won the 400 (1:03.14) and Madison Page won the long jump (17-3.25).

Shannon Wulf finished second in the triple jump (32-3.75) and 200 (28.44) and Lea Connoly, Emily Beinert, Megan Yanko and Page finished second in the 4×100 relay (53.87).

Page finished second in the 100 (13.74).

Elkhorn boys won at Brodhead with 155 points. The girls scored 104.5 points. Brodhead won the girls meet (150).

The Elkhorn boys won the Union Grove Quad with 146 points and the girls won with 163 points.

Davey won the 100 (11.45) and 400 (51.49). Tuescher won the 800 (2:07.45) and 1,600 (4:50.71). Koepke won the 100 hurdles (16.54) and Sattler won the 300 hurdles (43.13).

Caden Reece won the long jump (18-6) and Hergott won the high jump (6-3).

Mason Stebnitz, Ray Nelson, Erik Johnson, and Sean Ahler won the 4×800 relay (9:19,82), Koepke, Reece, Mason Stebnitz and Matthew Franz won the 4×400 relay (3:37.88) and Peter Barker, Franz, Adam Zoellner and Ryan Burns won the 4×200 relay (1:37.01).

For the girls, Pauley won the 400 (1:03.92) and Jazmin Huerta won the 800 (2:50.05). Taylor Bikowski won the 100 hurdles (18.16) and Kassie Thompson won the 300 hurdles (52.03).

Mackenzie Constable, Rylee Constable, Yanko and Wulf won the 4×200 relay (1:53.17), Kaeleigh Runnells, Kassie Thompson Olivia Moore and Pauley won the 4×400 relay (4:36.63) and Sydney Balboni, Yamila Hernandez, Ryan Gustisha and Bailey Plant won the 4×800 relay (12:28.96).

Moore won the pole vault (7 feet) and Wulf won the triple jump (33 feet).
