Track competes at Clinton Invite, softball beats Big Foot

The East Troy boys track and field team finished 10th overall, while the girls were 11th, both with 14 total points, at Saturday’s Clinton Invitational.

Jefferson won the boys team title with 105 points, followed by Brodhead-Juda with 75, Whitewater with 66, Parkview with 42.5 and Beloit Turner with 39.

The girls title went to Jefferson with 91 points, followed by Brodhead-Juda with 84, Big Foot with 59, Beloit Turner with 48 and Evansville with 41.

Both teams had a second-place finish to highlight the day.

On the boys’ side, the distance medley relay team of Nate Fox, Patryk Wawro, Jack Harris and Austin Depuydt was second in 12:12.16, while the on the girls’ side, Olivia Fitch was second in the high jump at 4-8.

Other top boys’ efforts were turned in by the 3,200-meter relay team of Fox, Depuydt, Harris and Connor McFarland, third (9:12.03); the sprint medley relay team of Connor Charland, Wyatt Kegley, Brandon Rintleman and Jonah Edwards, sixth (2:08.03); the middle distance medley relay team of Wawro, Kegley, Noah Bearce and McFarland, ninth (4:33.63); and Bearce, 11th in the shot put (36-5).

The other top girls’ finish came from the distance medley relay team of Andrea Smith, Emma Scurek, Julia Chase and Riley Pluess, fourth (14:45.18).

Also placing in the top 10 were the 400-relay team of Chase, Fitch, Scurek and Pluess, sixth (57.5); Chase, tied for sixth in the high jump (4-4); and Scurek, 10th in the high jump (4-0).

Both East Troy teams were back in action Tuesday afternoon at the Edgerton Invitational.

Softball rolls past Chiefs

The East Troy softball team scored in all five of its at bats April 2 in a 14-1, five-inning Rock Valley Conference win at Big Foot.

East Troy (3-2, 2-2) held a 9-1 lead into the fifth inning before it ended the game via the 10-run rule with a five-run fifth inning.

Leading the way were Isabella Atkinson (three hits, two runs), Erin Rice (three hits, two runs, RBI), Sydney Raddeman (hit, two runs, two RBI, double), Megan Verbeten (hit, run, two RBI, double), Camryn Rongstad (two runs) and Sophia Heimos (two runs).

Verbeten earned the win, as she allowed four hits, an earned run, a walk and struck out six.

East Troy traveled to Whitewater on Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans host Edgerton on Thursday, travel to Clinton on Saturday for a doubleheader and are back home Tuesday, April 15, to face Delavan-Darien.

Baseball drops two

The East Troy baseball team fell twice to Beloit Turner last week, a 12-2 decision April 2, followed by an 18-4 setback three days later, both in six innings.

In the first game, East Troy held a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but Turner erupted for seven runs, followed by a five-run sixth inning to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Dan Ace and Nate Reyes each had two hits for East Troy (1-6, 1-3 RVC).

Turner turned a 6-4 lead into a commanding 18-4 advantage in the rematch with a 12-run fourth inning.

East Troy traveled to Jefferson on Tuesday for an RVC doubleheader, followed by a home game Friday against Brodhead.

Soccer ties, loses

The East Troy girls soccer team battled host Cambridge to a scoreless tie last Tuesday, followed by a 3-0 RVC loss to visiting McFarland on April 4.

East Troy traveled to Westosha Central on Tuesday night and plays at Clinton on Thursday.
