The Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team opened its season by finishing in the top half of the field in its first two tournaments.

The Elks finished second April 4 in an invitational at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville and fifth in their own Elk Invite April 6 at Evergreen Country Club in Elkhorn.

The Elks competed Monday in an invite at Hawks View Golf Course in Lake Geneva and Tuesday at Rivermoor Golf Club in Waterford in the first Southern Lakes Conference Major of the season.

Elkhorn competes April 16 in the second SLC Major of the season, which will be held at Twin Lakes Country Club.

The Elks’ Nick Keller shot an 82 at Evergreen and finished in the top 10, at 10th place, in the Elk Invite. Elkhorn coach Brett Weber said Keller left some strokes on the course.

Quentin ‘Q’ Woyak finished at 88, and earned praised from Weber for finishing below 90. Nolan Ahler finished at 91.

RJ Jordan shot a 101 and Tommy Zimmerman finished at 109 for the Elks.

“We’re not playing with our regular lineup,” Weber said. “We put some new kids in there, and I think their nerves got the most of them.”

Cambridge’s Drew Jeffery won individual medalist honors with a three under par score of 59. Wauwatosa Co-op won the team title with a score of 325.

At Brighton Dale, Weber said the Elks short game paid off. Keller led the Elks in scoring with a nine-hole round of 38.

“That was good for him,” Weber said. “He finished bogey-bogey, so he was even with two holes to go. His short game was pretty solid.”

Ahler shot a 45. Jordan carded a 46 and Woyak and Zimmerman each finished at 49. Julian Biedermann finished at 55.

Elkhorn’s best ball score totaled 35, and the Elks tied with Waterford. Union Grove won the six-team meet (29).
