The Elkhorn Area School District has narrowed its field of candidates to two to replace retiring district administer Greg Westcott.

Susan Liebsle, school board president, wrote in an email, “We have chosen David Milz, district administrator for the Salem School District, and Jason Tadlock, district administrator for the Wheatland School District, as our finalists.

“Several school board members will visit their home districts on Tuesday (Jan. 8),” Liebsle noted, “and a special school board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 10, to make a final decision. We will announce that decision at the Monday, Jan. 14, school board meeting.”

The Jan. 10 meeting will be closed to the public because the board will meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters. The Jan 14 meeting is open to the public

David Milz

Salem School District is a single-building 4K through 8th grade school district with an approximate enrollment of 1,000 students. It is located on the northwest corner of State Route 83 and County Highway AH in Kenosha County.

The district is one of five public elementary schools in western Kenosha County that feeds into Central High School District of Westosha.    The district operates as three schools within a school: a grades 4K-2 primary school, grades 3-5 intermediate school and grades 6-8 middle school.

In an email, Milz said the Elkhorn Area School District is very attractive because of its longstanding commitment to educational excellence and the partnership that exists between the schools and community.

“There is a tremendous sense of school and community pride, and a definite historical devotion to the Elkhorn youth,” Milz wrote.

Milz holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from National-Louis University, Evanston, Ill. He has been superintendent of the Salem School District sine 2004.

Prior to that, he was principal of Bristol Consolidated, School, Bristol, and principal of Randall Consolidated School, Bassett.

Milz was a 2009-2010 Wisconsin Superintendent of the Year nominee, is an adjunct instructor in the Educational Leadership Department of National-Louis University and has coached sports at multiple levels,

Jason Tadlock

Wheatland School District is a K4 through 8th grade district with an approximate enrollment of 450 students. Wheatland Center School is located close to the cities of Lake Geneva, Burlington and Paddock Lake and about 20 miles west of Kenosha on Highway 50 in the town of Wheatland. The school provides elementary schooling for the town of Wheatland and parts of Randall, Salem and Brighton.

Tadlock decided to apply for the position with the Elkhorn Area School District because he believes the district has a strong school board, solid community support and an excellent teaching staff, he said in a phone interview.

“I have had the opportunity to work with the district as a consultant on two ocassions,” he wrote in an email, “and witness the quality and professionalism of (the) administrative team and teaching staff. The Elkhorn position would allow me to work with a larger administrative team, thus allowing me to focus more on the superintendency.”

Tadlock earned an Ed.S. in educational administration from UW-Superior and has been district administrator in Wheatland since 2010. Prior to that he was principal of New Glarus Middle and High School from 2006-2010.

In addition, he has served as athletic director, director of transportation, coach, substitute bus driver, Spanish teacher, youth counselor, talented and gifted coordinator.
