Trojan track teams take second at invite

The East Troy boys and girls track teams each finished second overall at Saturday’s Schreiber Classic at New Berlin West.

West won both team titles, as the boys tallied 134 points, while the girls had 142.

East Troy’s boys had 74 points, followed by Saint Thomas More with 48, Home School Eagles with 37 and Whitewater with 30.

On the girls’ side, East Troy had 89 points, followed by Thomas More with 40, Home School Eagles with 31 and Whitewater with nine.

The East Troy boys brought home four individual championships, two each from senior Nate Fox and junior Hunter Cliffgard, and one relay title.

Fox was first in the 800 (2:08.95) and the 1,600 (4:39.77), while Cliffgard was first in the 400 (59.23) and the 55-hurdles (9.03).

The Trojans’ other first-place effort came from the 1,600-relay team of Cliffgard, senior Jake Dessart, sophomore Austin Depuydt and Fox (3:58.77).

East Troy’s girls also returned with five invitational titles.

Finishing first were junior Alexis Olson in the 400 (1:10.72); senior Rachel Bottum in the 800 (2:33.63); senior Mackenzie Lindow in the 3,200 (13:40.87); the 1,600-relay team of junior Ella Rondeau, Olson, freshman Riley Pluess and Bottum (4:42); and the 3,200-relay team of Rondeau, junior Olivia Chapman, Lindow and junior Christina Nolting (11:19.79).

Other East Troy results

Also placing in the top five for the East Troy boys were senior Jack Harris, second in the 3,200 (13:03.16); senior Miles McCarthy, second in the long jump (18-1 ¼), third in the 200 (26.49) and fifth in the 55 (7.3); Cliffgard, second in the triple jump (38-8); Depuydt, third in the 800 (2:24.86) and third in the 1,600 (5:10.01); the 3,200-relay team of Connor McFarland, Jonah Edwards, Harris and Caleb Edwards, fourth (10:52.41); junior Patryk Wawro, fifth in the 400 (1:06.4); and the 960-meter relay team of Caleb Edwards, McFarland, Anthony Barney and Jonah Edwards, fifth (2:36.78).

On the girls’ side, other top-five individual efforts were turned in by Chapman, second in the 400 (1:11.67); senior Sami Mudlaff, second in the 55-hurdles (10:34); sophomore Emma Scurek, second in the high jump (4-2) and fourth in the 55-hurdles (10.86); Rondeau, second in the long jump (12-6); Nolting, third in the 1,600 (6:27.38); junior Maddy Otto, third in the 3,200 (14:35.89) and fifth in the 1,600 (6:49.1); senior Taylor Schmitt, third in the triple jump (30-4 ½) and fourth in the long jump (11-7 ¾); and Pluess, fourth in the 1,600 (6:31.86) and fifth in the 200 (33.01).

The East Troy girls’ 960-meter relay team of Mudlaff, Scurek, Lindow and Schmitt was second (2:40.48).

Both East Troy squads are back in action April 2, when they travel to Whitewater at 4:30 p.m.
