Woman allegedly bilked money from employer

An initial appearance is scheduled for March 14 for a Mukwonago woman charged with taking more than $31,000 from her Whitewater employer.

Samantha D. Rodriguez, 33, was charged Feb. 14 in Walworth County Circuit Court with theft in a business setting of $10,000 to $100,000.

According to the criminal complaint, the owner of Whitewater Chiropractor discovered discrepancies in the business’ bank deposits when Rodriguez resigned in October and a new receptionist started and noticed inaccuracies in the financial records.

The business owner reviewed the company’s bank deposits and discovered discrepancies that went as far back as 2011 when Rodriguez was hired, according to the complaint. Several clients had outstanding balances that should have been paid, the complaint states.

Rodriguez would write out two different deposit slips – one for the business’ records and one for the bank, and would keep the cash that the business received rather than depositing it into the bank, according to the complaint. Over the seven-year period of Rodriguez’s employment, $31,067.03 in cash was missing, the complaint alleges.

On Jan. 15, police spoke to Rodriguez, who said she and her son have medical issues and admitted taking the money to pay off debts, according to the complaint.
