Men allegedly made meth in Lake Geneva

A Lake Geneva man pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Feb. 22 on charges of making meth.

Joseph D. Gibson, 34, was charged Feb. 6 in Walworth County Circuit court with manufacturing or delivering methamphetamine and possession of waste from methamphetamine, both as a party to a crime. Tyler J. Jenkins, 42, was charged Feb. 11 with manufacturing meth, possession of waste from meth and possession of drug paraphernalia, all as a party to a crime.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness followed Gibson to a Wells Street apartment in Lake Geneva on Feb. 3 after he tried to pay for items with counterfeit $5 bills and stole items from the Stop and Go. Police went to the apartment where Jenkins answered the door and allowed officers to enter, according to the complaint. Police found Gibson was hiding in a closet in Jenkins’ bedroom and found items consistent with the use of manufacturing meth were found, according to the complaint.

Gibson told police Jenkins and another resident of the apartment let him sleep on their couch and had recruited him to buy pseudoephedrine a couple of weeks earlier, the complaint states.

Jenkins initially told police he buys pseudoephedrine for personal use and snorts it, but later admitted he was hooked on meth, gets pseudoephedrine and uses it like currency with his meth dealer, according to the complaint.

A jury trial in Gibson’s case is scheduled for May 6.
