Wisconsin Balloon Décor owner, Sara Meyer of Lake Geneva, returned home on Feb. 4 after competing for 13 hours to become the 2019 Balloon Designer of the Year.

The title was awarded in St. Louis at the bi-annual FLOAT convention, an international event for professional balloon decorators. Meyer is the first person from Wisconsin to win the award.

The competition spanned two days and required Meyer to inflate more than 1,000 balloons by herself during that time. From colorful sculptures to wedding decor, each area had a theme and a time limit. Meyer has been in business for three years.

More than 450 delegates from around the world attended the weeklong convention, complete with classes and team builds consisting of tens of thousands of balloons.

“The achievement and education will take my work to the next level. I’m excited to take on more ambitious installations and projects this year. There are so many things I want to try!” Meyer said.

Meyer has been invited back, this time as an instructor, for the next convention.

Meyer and Wisconsin Balloon Décor specialize in weddings and corporate events.
