Cassidy Laue led the Whippets in scoring in posting two double-digit performances last week.

On Feb. 2 against East Troy, the Trojans grabbed the halftime lead at 26-19 and held on to defeat the Whippets, 50-44, to complete the season sweep.

The Whippets made 14 shots, including three from beyond the arc, and finished 13-for-26 from the free-throw line.

“It was a good matchup, and I thought our defense looked good as we worked well and were able to interchange when they needed to with people they were defending,” head coach Kristen Lippens said. “Again, we got in foul trouble, which always seems to hurt us, especially when Kacie (Carollo) gets into foul trouble. It was a big difference in the second half.”

Cassidy Laue led the way with 15 points, while senior Jaden Henneman added 10. Carollo finished with 9 points.

“I’m proud of the way Jaden played and that she stayed in,” Lippens said. “She played very smart and aggressive, but not too aggressive so she could stay in the game. She kept her composure and went strong to the hoop.”

Against Evansville on Feb. 1, Whitewater led 27-25 before being outscored 34-8 in the second half to suffer a 59-35 loss.

The Whippets made 10 field goals, including one shot from three-point range, and went 9-for-13 from the line.

“They had a 14-2 run on us that really hurt our momentum and morale,” Lip-pens said of the second half. “We couldn’t get anything to go on offense. They pulled their defense out, and we had trouble as we turned the ball over and just couldn’t get anything started.”

Laue led the way with 8 points, while Abby Grosinske chipped in 7 and Jocelin Beecroft contributed 6.
