There was really just one span of last week’s Rock Valley Conference contest with visiting Brodhead that the Big Foot boys basketball team wasn’t in control.

And even with that brief offensive spurt by the Cardinals, the Chiefs had more than enough to overcome it.

Big Foot built a 16-point halftime lead and closed things out with a 20-5 scoring run in the second half en route to a commanding 77-50 victory. The win moved the Chiefs to 6-6 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Aside from the Cardinals 7-0 scoring run to start the second half, there was a lot to like from the win, Big Foot coach Jeff Fenrick said.

“The biggest key was that we stressed that defense has to dictate the game,” he said. “We wanted it to dictate the flow and energy of the game. We had also stressed better shot selection on offense. We forced shots in the last game (against Delavan-Darien), so we were able to work on and drill some things in practice this week.”
