The Palmyra Lions Club will hold its 34th annual Fisheree from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
No registration is required, but all fish must be caught on Lower Spring Lake.
Hourly fish prizes will be awarded for bass, northern and panfish; they must be registered and weighed in the beach shelter, which will be enclosed and heated.
The club has stocked Lower Spring Lake with northern pike in 1995, 196, 2005, 2009, 2013 and again late last September – 400 fish from 12 to 15 inches long. Each fish cost $8.
As of Jan. 14, the club’s Mike Fischer reported that the lake had 1 to 5 inches of ice. Club members recommend foot traffic only and encourage caution. With colder weather forecast, ice conditions are expected to improve. Prospective participants should check the Lions Club’s Facebook page for any updates.
Regardless, Palmyra Lioness members will sell sweet rolls, hot dogs, brats, hot cocoa, chili and coffee. The Lions will sell beer and soda.
Raffles will be conducted throughout the day, including the Fishermen’s Raffle drawing of a power auger, tip-ups and other gear at 11 a.m.
A sports raffle will include a Green Bay Packers signed football and Milwaukee Brewers and Admirals tickets. The Red raffle will feature a Generac generator, gift cards and other items.
The cash raffle is scheduled at 4:15 p.m., with first prize $200. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Tickets are available from club members or at Lakeside BP.
Proceeds go toward many Lions Club efforts. Some recent donations included $2,000 to victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the same amount to Wisconsin Lions camp for disabled children, $400 to needy families for Christmas and $100 to Lakeland School for Christmas.
The club also funds Project Graduation, PEASD scholarships, the Palmyra Food Pantry and, of course, restocking the lake.
