School board removes interim tag from administrator title

The Delavan-Darien School Board voted unanimously to remove the interim designation for District Administrator Jill Sorbie early last week. Sorbie had served as interim administrator since the district parted ways with former Superintendent Robert Crist last June.

Sorbie was the district’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction and retained that title and those duties as the district had to continue to pay the remainder of Crist’s contract. Sorbie will continue in that role even after the cost of Crist’s contract comes off the books.

“I did ask for both positions,” Sorbie said after the meeting. “I was not ready to have a new curriculum and instruction director come in.”

Sorbie said it always takes a new director two years to fully get their feet on the ground and now that she is in her second year she did not want to set back the progress she feels the district has made, which could happen by bringing in someone new.

“The good work that we are doing needs to continue,” she said.

Sorbie said it would be determined later if she continues in both roles.
