The Elkhorn Area High School boys swimming team won nine of 11 events and beat Delavan-Darien 129-39 Jan. 8 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet at Elkhorn.

Elkhorn celebrated Parents Night against the Comets, and Lucas Koepke used the occasion to break his school record in the 50 freestyle – again. Koepke won the event in 24.44 seconds.

Koepke also won the 100 freestyle (57.02).

Brevin Kruse, Alex Johnson, Ryan Daehn and Derek Gauger won the 200 medley relay (2:01.00).

Hunter Johnson won the 200 freestyle (2:01.24) and 100 butterfly (1:02.79)

Willy Pinnow won the 40 freestyle (4:23.89) and swam with Hunter Johnson, Gauger and Koepke on the Elks’ first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:41.38).

Kruse won the 100 backstroke (1:04.54).

Koepke, Danny Bush, Pinnow and Hunter Johnson won the 400 freestyle relay (3:58.74).

Gauger set a career best in the 100 freestyle, as did Spencer Ingersoll.

Elks coach Jamie Richardson praised Justin Pflanzer for his performance in the 200 individual medley. Pflanzer finished third in 2:40.47 for a personal best.

“He’s really come along this year,” Richardson said. “It’s really been fun to watch his progress in his senior year.”

Richardson said the team is in a good place. The Elks are now 6-0 in SLC dual meets.

“I like that they coach each other,” Richardson said. “They’re pushing each other for spots. That, in turn makes our team stronger.”

The Elks compete Jan. 22 in a SLC dual meet at Whitewater.
