One injured in Darien house fire

A single-family home on the 200 block of Fremont Street in Darien caught fire at about 11:40 p.m. Jan. 5. The home’s occupant needed medical attention, according to a press release from Darien Fire Chief Justin Schuenke.

The extent of the injury suffered by the home’s occupant in the fire was not known as of press time, according to the release.

Darien, Sharon and Walworth fire departments responded to the blaze in the Village of Darien and found heavy smoke and flames showing through the second story windows in the back of the house, the release states.

The fire was contained to the house and firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by about 12:12 a.m. and no firefighters were injured in the fire, according to the release.

The Walworth Fire Department and the Walworth County Arson Task Force also provided assistance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and Schuenke stated in the release that the estimated cost of the damage is roughly $100,000.
