Elkhorn swimmers win Relays

The Elkhorn Area High School boys swim team finished first or second in each event and won the Connor Bourke Relays Jan. 5 at Fort Atkinson High School.

The Elks beat three other teams Jan. 3 in a four-team Southern Lakes Conference meet at Elkhorn.

Elkhorn competed Tuesday at home against Delavan-Darien in a SLC dual meet, and competes Jan. 22 in a SLC dual meet at Whitewater.

Coach Jamie Richardson said the Elks posted 41 personal best times at Fort Atkinson.

“They were happy,” Richardson said. “We swam well and lots of people came through for us. It’s been a total team effort all season long.”

The Elks finished first and second in the 500-yard freestyle crescendo relay and in the 300 backstroke relay.

Ryan Daehn, Spencer Ingersoll, Lucas Koepke and Hunter Johnson won the 500 freestyle crescendo relay (4:32.06) and Ingersoll, Danny Bush and Derek Gauger won the 300 backstroke relay (3:06.52).

Brevin Kruse, Alex Johnson, Hunter Johnson and Koepke won the 400 medley relay (3:54.77) and Zach Pflanzer, Cooper Wachs, Tanner Breber and Mark Ambrose won the 200-yard freshman/sophomore medley relay (1:58.94).

Ingersoll, Koepke, Gauger and Willy Pinnow won the 400 freestyle 50+50 relay (3:13.27) and Gauger, Koepke and Pinnow won the 150 freestyle crescendo relay (1:11.45).

Ingersoll, Bush, Ambrose and Pinnow won the 600 freestyle 100+50 relay (5:24.87) and Austin Muetzel, Kruse, Gauger and Pinnow won the 4×25 tube relay (1:24.67).

The Elks finished second in the 4×100 individual medley relay, the 150 butterfly crescendo relay, 300 breaststroke crescendo relay and 250 freestyle relay.

The Elks won 10 of 11 events Jan. 3 in a four-team SLC dual meet that included Platteville/Lancaster, Racine St. Catherine’s/Prairie and Burlington Co-op.

Koepke set a school record in the 50 freestyle and broke his own school in doing so. Koepke won the event in 1:05.92.

Kruse, Alex Johnson, Hunter Johnson and Koepke won the 200-meter medley relay (1:55.91) and Gauger, Pinnow, Bush and Koepke won the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.38).

Hunter Johnson won the 200 freestyle (2:01.57) and 100 butterfly (1:00.33) and Kruse won the 200 individual medley (2:26.91).

Koepke won the 100 freestyle (56.91) and Pinnow won the 400 freestyle (4:23.33). Kruse won the 100 backstroke (1:05.92).
