Whippets move on after tough Mid-States competition

The Mid-States Wrestling Classic was the lone meet last week for Whitewater High School’s wrestling team.

The 42-team tournament took place at UW-Whitewater on Dec. 28 and 29.

The Whippets managed a 26th-place finish in the strong and massive field.

Whitewater scored 68 points, with 12 Whippets scoring points.

The top point scorer was Carter Friend at 152 pounds, where he placed 10th and garnered 18 points. Friend made it to the ninth-place match, his seventh of the event, and lost by a decision.

David Cushman placed 11th at 145 pounds, while Marcus DePorter placed 12th at 126 pounds and Amaru Casas did the same at 170.

The Whippets were scheduled for a home dual against Kettle Moraine on Thursday (Jan. 3). They will participate in an RVC dual meet tournament starting at 9 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Big Foot High School.
