City to combine administrative roles

The City of Elkhorn Common Council voted 5-1 last week in favor of an administrative transition that will combine the city administrator and finance director roles upon the retirement of current City Administrator Sam Tapson.

The Human Resources Committee had previously recommended the transition to the full Council on a 2-1 vote, with Alderman Tom Myrin dissenting. Myrin again cast the sole opposing vote Monday, with all other aldermen in favor of proceeding with the process.

As of last week, Tapson had not yet officially announced a retirement date though he stated at a previous Human Resources Committee meeting that after 20 years with the City of Elkhorn, his departure and how that’s handled is something the Council needed to consider.
