The traffic jam at the top of the Rock Valley Conference girls basketball standings will continue at least until 2019.

And Big Foot finds itself right in the middle of it all.

The Chiefs improved to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the RVC last week with a hard-fought, 47-39 conference win over visiting Whitewater.

With the win, Big Foot moved into a three-way tie atop of the conference standings with East Troy and McFarland. Sitting right behind those three are Evansville and Whitewater, both at 5-3 in the RVC.

The matchup last week was tight throughout.

Big Foot held an early 9-1 lead before the Whippets eventually pulled within three points. Big Foot’s Viola Larson knocked down a 3-pointer with just two seconds left in the opening half to send the Chiefs to the locker room with a 28-22 advantage.

Early in the second half, the Chiefs had built their lead to double digits before the Whippets again answered to cut the deficit to just two points at 41-39 in the final minutes.

Big Foot responded with a 6-0 scoring run of its own to secure the victory.

Abby Vandebogart led the Chiefs with nine points, followed by Viola Larson and Olivia Peterson with eight, Reagan Courier with seven and Sophia Foster with six.

Big Foot is idle until Jan. 4 when it travels to Evansville for another key conference matchup. The Chiefs close their first week back in action Jan. 7 with a non-conference contest against visiting Elkhorn.
