Coach Jeff Brown said the Elkhorn Area High School girls basketball team found a way to win Dec. 21 in a non-conference game at Fort Atkinson.

In their final game before a two-week break for the holidays the Elks beat the Blackhawks 40-36.

Elkhorn beat Delavan-Darien 54-33 Dec. 18 in a Southern Lakes Conference game at Elkhorn.

The Elks’ next game is Jan. 4 at home against SLC foe Union Grove.

“The team thought they didn’t play a great game, but we found a way,” Brown said of the game against Fort. “We did a great job of getting the ball to Haley Remington. She did a great job of finishing. I also thought Chloe Ehrhardt played her best game of the year.”

The Elks (8-2, 3-2 SLC) outscored Fort (0-10) 18-15 in the first half and 22-21 in the second half of a tight game.

“I’m really happy with the senior leadership of Ryley Rand and Payton Christensen,” Brown said. We missed too many free throws when we could have finished them off.”

Remington led the Elks with 15 points. Erhardt grabbed seven rebounds.

Kat Brandl led Fort with 16 points.

Brown said the Elks played their most complete game of the season in the victory over Delavan-Darien (3-5, 1-3 SLC).

“We were able to get to the free throw line and get the ball inside,” Brown said. “We were extremely unselfish with the ball and had a great willingness to find a teammate for a better shot.

“Our kids always get excited to play Delavan-Darien, and they were ready to go from start to finish.”

The Elks outscored the Comets 26-13 in the first half and 28-20 in the second.

Remington led the Elks with a game-high 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Maddie Ivey scored 12 points.

Rand, Remington and Christensen each finished with three steals.
